pH strips are used for testing wine to ensure a suitable acidity level has been achieved for fermentation - normally 3.1-3.4 for wine or cider.
 
To use, simply  dip a strip for about 2-3 seconds completely in a small sample of the wine or cider and compare the middle zone with the coloured scale.

If the tested liquid is too acidic, you can reduce this by adding precipitated chalk. If it is too low, you can increase it by adding citric, malic or tartaric acid.
